Traveling Internationally with Cremated Remains
TRAVELING INTERNATIONALLY WITH CREMATED REMAINS
With so many advances in technology and travel, families are more spread out than ever before. It’s common for families to want to take the ashes of their loved ones back to their country of origin. This can be problematic if you don’t have the proper documentation and Consulate approvals. The skilled cremationists at The Beachwood Society will be able to guide you through the proper protocols for each country.
Traveling internationally with cremated remains often requires Consulate approval, apostille services, and securing official documents for travel. The Beachwood Society is well-acquainted with the protocols for many countries, and we have many resources available for families.
Obtaining Consulate approvals, apostilles, and the like frequently involves additional charges for overnight mailings, as well as the costs incurred in obtaining approval for families to travel with their loved one’s ashes. Your cremation provider will be able to explain the protocols and additional charges to you and ensure that your travels are as streamlined as possible.
Your cremation provider will also be able to advise you of travel embargoes and countries that do not accept cremated remains from beyond their borders. Alternative options will be presented to you, should that be the case.
